Reading Support Scheme

GAEC Reading Support scheme is run at school for our Level 3 to 6 classes. Our aim is to improve our pupils' Reading skills and to encourage our Muslim pupils with their Quran Hifdh.

Reading” is an important skill in any Language and your help to your children with their reading is essential. Reading reinforces their learning of Arabic, widen their vocabulary and help with their grammar and fluency.

Every year our new Level 3 start the “Reading Support Scheme” at school. This means that every Saturday, every pupil attends a 10 min one-to-one guided reading session with one of our helpers. Comments & Progress are regularly recorded on their “Reading Record Book” which they take home along with their Library book.

Pupils take home the Library book they have started at school and are encouraged to continue reading and/or finish it at home with their parents who are also asked to comment on the provided Reading Record book.

How can you help your child?

Please ensure your child reads or is being read to (if too young) regularly. This can be as little as 5 min every day.

Can we also ask you to encourage your child to look after their Library book and their Reading Record book and make sure they bring both books every Saturday.

Please note that in case of loss or serious damage of either the Library Book or Reading Record Book, you may be asked to cover the cost of the item.

How is the Reading incorporated into the School set-up?

The children’s Reading will be marked weekly to monitor their progress. This mark will contribute to their end of year Report. The most successful pupils will be rewarded accordingly.

Quran Reading & Hifdh

Our Muslim pupils are encouraged with their Quran Recitation and Hifdh where they are supposed to learn a minimum number of Surahs at every level with the aim to lean the complete juz' Ammaa at the end of level 7 and before their last year at GAEC.

Parents  assistance with this would be of great help.

The following "Quran Checklist" is used as a Guide and a Record for pupils progress throughout their stay at GAEC:

VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY NEEDED

More volunteers are needed to ensure the success of the scheme. With our number of our pupils, we will need at least 2 helpers every Saturday

You will agree that our children benefit immensely from these reading sessions and we would appreciate if you could spare some Saturdays to help out, even if this is only one Saturday per month.

There is a weekly schedule available where you can commit to 1, 2 or more Saturdays, please do not hesitate to come and speak to us.
