GAEC Motto, Rules and Code of Conduct

GAEC strives to provide a SAFE and HAPPY learning environment to its pupils where everyone is expected to BE RESPECTFULRESPONSIBLE and HARD WORKING

 

All school members: teachers, helpers, parents and pupils are expected to respect and comply with the school Rules and Code of Conduct which are embedded in the school Motto.

1- SAFETY

 

“Be Safe and ensure that everyone else around me is safe at all time”

 

“I must report anything (no matter how small it is) that doesn’t feel safe for me or anyone else in the school to either a teacher, a helper or my parents”

 

  • All children are expected to be dropped off at school and not at the car park unless they are left with another adult. 
  • All pupils are expected to be in the Assembly room no later than 10:25am.
  • Parents must not leave the school premises without ensuring that their child (regardless of their age) is with at least one of the teachers/helpers.
  • Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 pupils must be picked up from their respective classrooms (on the Ground Floor) or alternatively from the main entrance lobby.
  • All pupils from Level 4 onward must be picked up outside the building at the teaching block entrance door.
  • Pupils (regardless of their age) are not allowed to leave the school without their parents (or guardian). If they are to be collected before the end of school, please ensure you let their teacher know.
  • Pupils are not allowed to step out of the main doors without supervision.
  • Pupils are not allowed to stay in their classrooms during lunch break time unless supervised by an adult under specific circumstances.
  • Running is not permitted in the building.
  • It is allowed to bring in a football to the school for break time. However it must be kept in a bag within the building to avoid dropping it on the floor and causing injury.
  • Pupils aged 10 or less must not play in the over 10 designated area in the playground.
  • Climbing over fences/gates and handrails is strictly forbidden.
  • Sitting on tables and bouncing on chairs are strictly forbidden.

 

2- RESPECT 

 

All school members are expected to respect each other, respect the school premises (including school equipment) and the environment.

 

“I must respect everyone at school: the teachers, the helpers and all other pupils” 

 

“I must respect the school premises, my belongings and other people belongings at all times”

 

“I must respect and appreciate all the hard work provided by the volunteers working for the school”

 

  • Pupils are expected to be polite and courteous at all times.
  • Everyone is expected to dress adequately and in accordance with the Dress Code (described below).
  • It is not permitted to touch (or fiddle with) any Kings College belongings such as books, stationary, equipment, etc. If you are unsure, please ask a teacher or any member of staff.
  • Pupils are encouraged to help tidying up their classroom with their teachers at the end of the lessons.
  • Pupils are expected to show respect towards food and throwing their leftovers after they had lunch in the bin is not permitted at GAEC.
  • All pupils are expected to be attentive and respectful during the morning assembly and all lessons.
  • Mobile phones, toys or collector cards are only permitted at break time and outside the classrooms. These are strictly forbidden during Assembly & lessons and while moving up and down the stairs.

 

3- RESPONSIBILITY 

 

All school members are expected to be responsible. We simply follow the saying of Prophet Mohammed Peace be upon him:

 

“Each one of you is a shepherd responsible for his flock”

 

  • Pupils must be responsible for their own safety and for the safety of everyone else in the school. They must report any incident or anything they feel is not safe for anyone.
  • Pupils must not miss any lessons as this will have a huge impact on their progress.
  • Pupils must take full responsibility of their learning; if they miss a session they must ensure that they catch up and do their homework on time. Parents are expected to facilitate this and help younger pupils.
  • All pupils must look after themselves, their belongings, younger pupils and their siblings.
  • All pupils are expected to show consideration to others, offer help and be sympathetic.
  • Always say sorry when you realise you’ve mistaken someone.

 

4- HARD WORKING

 

 

At GAEC everyone works hard, and expectations are extremely high when it comes to efforts.

 

“I always do my best” 

 

  • Everyone at school is expected to give their best, be on time to the lessons and take the most of their learning time at school.
  • Pupils are expected to be active and be engaged in learning.
  • Working hard at home is mandatory without which pupils will struggle at school and start losing interest.
  • Strong, continuous and consistent support at home is compulsory given the restricted time available at school.
  • Homework is mandatory and must always be done on time without which pupils will be sanctioned and asked to complete their work during break time.
  • Pupils must try hard to understand when spoken to in Arabic and never hesitate to ask until they fully grasp the idea.

 

5- HAVING FUN

 

Having Fun and enjoying learning Arabic is extremely important at GAEC. Everyone is expected to do extra work so a happy learning environment is provided for everyone at school.

  • Nasheeds and plays are part of our Curriculum and it is expected that everyone engages with these.
  • Teachers are expected to provide interactive learning so it is enjoyable.
  • Pupils are expected to enjoy their time at school without compromising any part of the school Motto.

 

FURTHER GUIDANCE

 

DRESS CODE

 

All pupils are expected to dress adequately for a healthy learning environment and the following must be adhered to by all school community members:

  • No offensive logos should be worn or made visible 
  • Skirts/shorts must be knee length.
  • Leggings can only be worn with long tops, skirts or dresses
  • Shoulders and midriffs must be covered
  • Underwear must not be on display
  • Outlandish hairstyles and exaggerated makeup are not permitted
  • Comfortable/ appropriate shoes must be worn at all times.

 

This policy has been made to ensure that all members within our community are comfortable at all times. Anyone dressed inappropriately will receive a verbal warning in the first instance and will be sent home to change on the second.

 

PUNCTUALITY and ABSENCES

 

  • Pupils must arrive at school no later than 10:25 and must be collected at 14:00 sharp.
  • Punctuality and Absences are recorded.
  • Teachers must be contacted for any absence as soon as possible and before the lesson when possible. Unauthorised absences will automatically result in a zero mark towards the pupil weekly assessment.
  • Three unauthorised absences will attract a warning. Persistent absence will result in the pupil being expelled from the school.

 

REWARD AND MARKING SYSTEM

 

  • At each level, pupils are marked weekly by their teacher. Their weekly mark reflects their performance in the following areas:
    • behaviour,
    • effort,
    • homework,
    • weekly test (if applicable)
    • speaking,
    • reading 

The pupil with the best performance is awarded GAEC Star of the day.

  • A Quran Certificate is awarded to each pupil for every “surah” they learn.
  • In addition to the weekly assessment, Level 2-Level 7 pupils will be formally assessed by sitting two exams per Academic year; Test 1 at the start of the Spring term and Test 2 towards the end of the Summer term.
  • Dates for Test 1 and 2 are set at the start of each Academic year and failure to sit any of the tests will automatically result in a zero mark.
  • At the end of the Academic year prizes are awarded to the best three pupils in each class. The final pupil assessment is based on the following:
    • Test 1 at 30%
    • Test 2 at 30%
    • Weekly performance at 40%
  • Quran prizes are awarded to the best Quran Readers at each level.

 

ASSEMBLY

 

  • It is mandatory for all pupils to attend Assembly at 10:30 before their lesson.
  • Assemblies are used to convey important information that pupils must not miss.
  • Assemblies are also used to supplement teaching at GAEC with Islamic based morals and principles of Islam.
  • Teachers and helpers work very hard to deliver these to our pupils making them relevant and beneficial to them.

 

PRAYER

 

During winter time Dhuhr prayer is held at school at lunchtime; all staff and pupils who wish to attend are welcome to join.
